Grants & Financial Assistance

The Marion County Kidney Foundation offers Mini Grants to help kidney patients manage essential living expenses during difficult times. These grants act as a last‑resort safety net when no other resources are available.

What Mini Grants Can Help With

  • Prescription medications

  • Transportation to and from dialysis

  • Utility bills (electricity, water, etc.)

How the Process Works

  • Patients complete a simple application describing their need

  • Applications are submitted through dialysis social workers

  • Each request is reviewed with care, confidentiality, and fairness

  • Grants are limited and may be requested once per year

To ensure accountability, patients never receive money directly. Payments are issued only to the service provider (for example, a check made out directly to Duke Energy).

Our Commitment

This program helps patients stay stable during challenging moments so they can focus on their health, treatment, and recovery — not overdue bills.

Bridge to Transplant Scholarships

A kidney transplant can be life‑changing — but the financial burden that comes with it can feel overwhelming. One of the biggest challenges patients face is the cost of anti‑rejection medications, which are essential for keeping a new kidney healthy and functioning.

Before a transplant can move forward, patients must complete a financial review to determine whether they can afford these medications long‑term. Many cannot — and that’s where the Marion County Kidney Foundation steps in.

How the Scholarship Helps

Our Bridge to Transplant Scholarship provides financial support for patients who qualify and demonstrate need. For those approved, the foundation establishes a $5,000 grant in the patient’s name to help cover the cost of required medications.

This support can make the difference between being eligible for a transplant and being ready for one.

Who Qualifies

  • Patients preparing for a kidney transplant

  • Individuals who complete the financial assessment

  • Those who demonstrate genuine financial need for medication support

Each application is reviewed carefully to ensure the scholarship goes to patients who truly need it.

Anti‑rejection medications aren’t optional — they’re the key to protecting a new kidney. By easing this financial burden, the foundation helps patients move forward with confidence, stability, and hope.
